"I made the "Bridge series" of etchings not long after I moved to Townsville. The original idea for the prints grew out of my association with the Andy and Daisy from Murray Upper aboriginal community and some local indigenous people who often congregated near a dissused bridge close to the middle of Townsville. In the etching I created a simple narrative about the strange dreamings of a child born under the shaddow of the bridge. |
During this period I was trying to create new narratives in my work that would bring together new friendships and experiences from different cultures and time periods. The work draws upon diverse influences such as the prints of George Baldessin, black and white cricket photography ,the Mayan codex and hot summer nights in in Townsville". - Ron McBurnie |
